Elizabeth Marie's Baptism

On Saturday, October 25, 2008, Elizabeth was baptized by Father Gerard Saguto, FSSP at Holy Family in West Seattle. She was the first baby to be baptized in the newly formed parish of the North American Martyrs. The baptism was filled with the beauty and richness of our Catholic faith. It reminded me in many ways of Catherine's Dominican rite baptism several years earlier. We are truly blessed to have the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in the Archdiocese of Seattle. May God bless Fr. Saguto and our little Elizabeth.

Vote NO on I-1000

Washington state does not want physician-assisted suicide.

My children and I have been going door-to-door distributing vote NO on I-1000 literature. The few people to whom we have directly given the information have been very thankful to receive it. If you live in Washington state, please vote NO on I-1000. For more information about this dangerously deceptive and deadly initiative, please visit http://www.noassistedsuicide.com/ If you would like to help defeat I-1000, please make a donation to the Coalition Against Assisted Suicide, https://ssl22.pair.com/stshore/contribute_suicide.html Finally and most importantly, please pray that I-1000 does not pass.

10 Days

10 days to pray for a fast, easy, and safe delivery.
10 days to pray to St. Gerard and St. Anne.
10 more days to say the Memorare each time baby moves.
10 more days to pray, "St. John Bosco, pray for us!"
10 days for me to pack my bags.
10 days for me to get the car seat ready.
10 days for me to catch up on laundry and ironing.
10 days for me to decide on a girl's name (my husband already has a boy's name picked out).
10 days of hearing the children counting down the days.
10 days until my due date.

And if this baby is late, then I will have even more days to do the above.

Paddington Bear's 50th Anniversary

I first met Paddington Bear when I was 7. Today, I enjoy reading the books to my children and they like listening to them. Somehow, I never knew that there were Paddington Bear cartoons.

Let us pray. O God, Who by the preaching and blood of Thy sainted martyrs, Isaac and John and their companions, didst consecrate the first fruits of the Faith in the vast regions of North America, graciously grant that by their intercession, the flourishing harvest of Christians may everywhere be increased. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, in union with the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

O God, who didst inflame the hearts of Thy sainted martyrs with an admirable zeal for the salvation of souls, grant us, we beseech Thee, what we now implore: (Here privately form your petitions.) so that the favors obtained through their intercession may make manifest before men and power and glory of Thy name. Amen.

North American Martyrs Parish's First Mass

The Seattle Times has an article about and photos from the North American Martyrs Parish's first Mass. During his sermon, Fr. Saguto requested that we pray the Novena to the North American Martyrs that an appropriate church be found soon. Please join my family in praying the Novena.

NOVENA TO THE NORTH AMERICAN MARTYRS

Holy Martyrs and patrons, protect this land which you have blessed by the shedding of your blood. Renew in these days our Catholic faith which you helped to establish in this new land. Bring all our fellow citizens to a knowledge and love of the truth. Make us zealous in the profession of our faith so that we may continue and perfect the work which you have begun with so much labour and suffering. Pray for our homes, our schools, our missions, for vocations, for the conversion of sinners, the return of those who have wandered from the fold, and the perseverance of all the faithful. And foster a deeper and increasing unity among all Christians. Amen.

NOVENA PRAYER
O God, who by the preaching and the blood of your blessed Martyrs, John and Isaac and their companions, consecrated the first fruits of the faith in the vast regions of North America, graciously grant that by their intercession the flourishing harvest of Christians may be everywhere and always increased. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER OF PETITION
(Mention petition)
O God, who inflamed the hearts of your blessed Martyrs with an admirable zeal for the salvation of souls, grant me, I beseech you, my petitions and all the requests recommended here today, so that the favours obtained through their intercession may make manifest before men the power and the glory of your name. Amen.

St. John de Brébeuf, pray for us.
St. Isaac Jogues, pray for us.
St. Gabriel Lalemant, pray for us.
St. Anthony Daniel, pray for us.
St. Charles Garnier, pray for us.
St. Noël Chabanel, pray for us.
St. René Goupil, pray for us.

The Puyallup Fair

In the beginning of September, we went to the Puyallup fair with some members of our homeschool group.
Theresa really wants a horse.

Brendan sawed through the log like it was butter.

Patrick took a little longer.

Finnian liked the chicks.

They all liked the pigs.

August Home School Picnic

The host and hostess of the picnic were nice enough to put the video together and share it. The children had a wonderful time and hope to go again next year. Brendan spent most of his time kayaking. Next time, I will have to stress that other children might want to do so, too.

Please pray for my friend Karen

Her daughter emailed my eldest the following:

Mom just had a miscarriage and had to go to the hospital in Bremerton and in Silverdale and had to get 3 units of blood. It started on Sunday and ended on Tuesday. Everything is fine but Mom will have to rest for 6 weeks. The baby's name is Helena Marie. ( I thought that it should be a girl this time because the last 2 were boys.) It's quite funny because on Wednesday (that was when the bleeding started) Mom said to God, "Bring it on", she really got it.

Please keep Karen and her family in your prayers. May Mary wrap her mantle around all of them.
