Please Pray for Jonathan Stevenson

I used to tutor for Jonathan's brother, Kolbe.

The following information was sent to our homeschool group.

He hit a tree while riding a motorcycle and fractured his skull and one arm. He has fractured cheek bones and swelling and bleeding in the head. He did not puncture a lung as earlier thought. The doctors have not done any surgery on his head and won't unless things get worse. They are closely monitoring the pressure in his head and are using a combination of drugs to adjust his metabolism and heart rate to keep the pressure from increasing. Jonathan's arm will probably need surgery but they will have to wait until his condition improves before attempting this. The doctors say he will probably be in a coma for at least a week and it may be 2 or 3 weeks before they know how well he is doing and up to a year before they know how complete his recovery will be. In other words, "It is in God's Hands". So keep praying.

Please ask for Mary's intercession and pray to The Holy Trinity asking for Jonathan's quick recovery and strength for the whole Stevenson family in coping with this extremely stressful situation, especially for Kolbe who was with Jonathan at the time of the accident.

What a small world. 20 years ago Dan and Donna Stevenson (Jonathan's Parents) were my youth ministers. I have recently (in the past 2 years)become closer to God and in my faith, and have run into Dan and Donna on numerous occasions at church etc. Two Sunday's ago I brought my three year old to six 'o clock mass and sat next to Donna. She really touched my spirits that evening and all I can remember is the beautiful smile on her face. I just learned about Jonathan's accident and of his critical condition. He and his family have been on my mind and a topic of discussion with my family. I decided to "Google" his name and was led to this blog.

Just thought I would share with you who I was (Lisa). I am so unfamiliar
with blogging that I am not sure what to do next, but thank you for your prayers and posting this for others to pray for him and his family.

    On a more personal note...
Christine, I was your neighbor downstairs at Juanita Country Club in 1998 (or so). I thought about you 9 months ago when I had my first colicky baby, and remembered you were my first memory of someone who had a baby with colic.
My sister is a Catholic Home-school Mom with three (going on four) children. I will soon need to make a decision on whether or not I could/want to home school my children.

Anyway, how amazing, Jonathan brought me to remembering you!

    God Bless,
    Lisa

  2. Lisa,
I have not seen the Stevenson family for a long time, but Jonathan has been in my constant thoughts and prayers since I heard about the accident. One of my favorite memories of tutoring for Kolbe was taking him home and seeing all of the children flock around Donna, especially Jessica and Jonathan. Kolbe and Jonathan always disappeared to play while Donna and I spoke briefly. They are a wonderful family!

It is definitely a small world. We think about you and Nita (the lady who lived across from us) often. I also think about your roommate quite a bit and wonder how she is doing. In the past few years, I have become more involved in pro-life work and admire the generosity that you showed her and her courage.

As far as colicky babies go, my mom used to tell me that I had been a colicky baby and had been a very well-behaved and easy child. She attributed my demeanor to the fact that she had spent so many hours holding and trying to console me when I was a baby. There might be something to what she said, as Catherine is also a very well-behaved and easy child.

Our former parish (your parish once more?) is a great place to decide whether or not God is calling you to home school. As you probably know, a lot of the parishioners are homeschooling families. I will pray for you as you try to discern whether or not you should home school. It would be nice to see you again and meet your family. If you would like to leave a comment with your e-mail or phone number, I will not publish it.
