Me: "Sweet Elizabeth, will you please..."
Elizabeth: "Don't call me sweet. I'm not sweet."
Me: "Oh, why aren't you sweet."
Elizabeth: "If I was sweet, that would mean that I was like sugar or something. I'm just Elizabeth."
She's sweeter than sugar, but I won't call her sweet again.
As we sat around the dinner table last night, I was surprised to hear the following:
Elizabeth: "Her mother gave her mashed potato and she was furious."
Me: "Are you furious?"
Elizabeth: "No, I just don't like mashed potato and it sounded good."
How "sweet" (excuse the pun)! How old is she? Looks like she is trying to become her "own" Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eva. She is five. I am assuming that she learned the word "furious" in a book that one of us read to her. :)
ReplyDeleteSo she is Flora's age! That reminds me of a line Flora always quotes form a German picture book about somebody not liking mashed potatoes and spinach. There is also a word in there Flora loves to use when there is something she doesn't like to eat. She then tells me that she pretends that the food she doesn't like is mashed potatoes with spinach.
ReplyDeleteThat's too funny. I hadn't realized that they are the same age.
DeleteOh, what a sweetie! And that's too funny about the 'furious'. It's always amusing to hear what little ones come up with when they encounter a new word and think they know how to use it appropriately, but are just a little bit off. :-)
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, Kimberlee. :)
DeleteHow cute! These two things made gave me a laugh, which I greatly needed. May God bless you and your beautiful family!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathleen. May God bless you!
